Job summary

Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA seeks a Medical Assistant to provide individualized patient care under supervision, performing duties in person, electronically and by phone. Duties include preparing patients and providers for visits, documenting registration, and ensuring clear communication with patients throughout the care process.

Required: high school diploma or GED, plus Medical Assistant Certification and BLS. Preferred: completion of an MA training program.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of a formal medical assistant training program preferred.
• Medical Assistant Certification and BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit
• Ensures the patient's questions are answered prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through personal professional development
• Meets the procedures of the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs, if working in an occupational health clinic
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style
• Performs other duties as assigned
