Job summary

Ochsner LSU Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform appointment scheduling and direct patient care within a clinic setting. Under supervision of a licensed provider, you will assist in delivering health care services and support patient flow throughout the care team.

The role requires strong communication, data entry, and computer skills, with emphasis on patient privacy and professional interaction. Dental and occupational health clinics may have additional duties.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED; MA training preferred.
• Preferred related clinic/medical office experience.
• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; CHAM/CHAA or MA certifications preferred.
• Proficient with Windows applications and data entry; able to communicate clearly with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to patients, guests, and family members.
• Ensure all patient forms are completed and paperwork is accurate.
• Input patient/guarantor data and explain/collect insurance co-pays and self-pay amounts.
• Perform vital signs and basic assessments as needed.
• Prepare patients for exams and answer questions about procedures.
• Schedule and reschedule appointments and route calls to appropriate departments.
• Adhere to DOT Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing if in occupational health clinic.
