Job summary

Cano Health in Miami is seeking a motivated Medical Assistant to support physicians and clinical staff in patient examinations, testing, and care coordination. The role combines clinical duties with administrative tasks to ensure a seamless patient experience.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of MA experience, completes an accredited MA program or certification, is bilingual (English/Spanish), and holds a current BLS. Proficiency with eCW EMR is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or Medical Assistant certification.
  • Active and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (preferably eCW).
  • Certification in Medical Translation.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and document health history and chief complaints.
  • Record vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, SpO2, height, weight).
  • Perform pre-visit planning and intake procedures.
  • Administer vaccines and injections with proper documentation.
  • Conduct point‑of‑care testing (COVID-19, flu, glucose, urine dipstick, PT/INR).
  • Perform phlebotomy and manage specimens.
  • Assist with EKGs, spirometry, RetinaVue imaging.
  • Maintain infection control and PPE standards.
  • Prepare and sanitize exam rooms and operate AEDs as needed.
  • Prep encounters in the EMR (eCW) and chart reviews.
  • Reconcile medications and assist with refills.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-ups.
  • Review End-of-Visit Summaries with patients.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists.
  • Update visit status and verify pharmacy details.
  • Support HEDIS measures documentation.
  • Confirm appointments and scheduling.
  • Assist with transportation scheduling.
  • Promote Patient Portal enrollment.
  • Make wellness/outreach calls.
  • Advocate for patient navigation post-hospitalization.
  • Collaborate with front desk and clinical teams.
  • Clear telephone encounters and respond to messages.
  • Keep e-filing up to date within 48 hours.
  • Monitor faxes and EMR Jellybeans and task buckets.
  • Use Availity and immunization portals.
  • Support prior authorization processes.
