Job summary

Ochsner is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to deliver individualized patient care in person, by phone, and electronically under supervision. You will assist providers, prepare for visits, document accurately, and maintain clinical skills.

A High School diploma or GED is required; formal MA training and BLS certification are preferred and often required. The role emphasizes compassionate service, strong communication, confidentiality, and adaptability to diverse patient populations.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred: formal Medical Assistant training program.
• Experience with confidential information in fast-paced settings.
• Certification: Medical Assistant Certification.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association required.
• Proficiency in computers, software and web-based applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Support patient and provider throughout visits.
• Ensure patient and provider are prepared for visits.
• Address patient questions before leaving and prep room for next appointment.
• Deliver excellent patient service via phone and in person.
• Complete documentation including patient registration when needed.
• Maintain clinical knowledge and credentials through ongoing development.
• Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing where applicable.
• Adapt communication to diverse patient populations and respects privacy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
