Responsibilities

• Serve as a patient advocate during exams and treatments.
• Interview patients to obtain medical info and measure vitals, weight and height.
• Prepare patients for exams in exam, procedure or operating rooms.
• Record medical history, medications, allergies and test results in records.
• Administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocols.
• Collect and prepare specimens for testing and log results.
• Explain treatments, medications, diets and wound care to patients.
• Assist physicians with procedures and provide instruments and materials.
• Authorize refills under provider direction and relay prescription info to pharmacies.
• Prepare and maintain clean, stocked treatment rooms and maintain sterile fields.
• Monitor patient condition and notify clinicians of distress.
• Inventory supplies and ensure equipment is in proper working order.
• Document procedures promptly and correctly, and respond to emergencies per policy.
