Job summary

The New Hampshire Veterans Home (NHVH) is seeking reliable, experienced cooks to support meal preparation for veteran residents. In this role, you will prepare and serve meals in accordance with menus, standardized recipes, and dietary requirements, including special needs of residents in a life-enhanced dementia care unit.

Qualifications

• Experience in cooking or food-service preferred.
• Ability to read recipes, menus, and written instructions.
• Knowledge of sanitation and safe food-handling practices.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced institutional or commercial kitchen.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and push carts.
• ServSafe certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to menus, recipes, and dietary requirements.
• Follow portion-control, food-quality, presentation, and meal-service standards.
• Properly handle, store, label, and rotate food and ingredients.
• Follow food-safety and sanitation requirements.
• Operate commercial kitchen equipment and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Monitor food preparation and inform Kitchen Supervisor of concerns.
• Assist with inventory management, receiving, storage, and rotation of food and supplies.
• Work with kitchen and facility staff to support timely meal service.
• Follow NHVH policies and resident-care requirements.
