Job summary

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) at Brown University Health provides direct clinical care in outpatient and inpatient settings, managing full scope midwifery including well-woman gynecology, high-risk pregnancies, contraception counseling, and postpartum care, under physician supervision and in collaboration with the Senior CNM.

Qualifications

• Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
• American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) required.
• Current RI midwifery licensure and controlled substance registration required.
• 2 years obstetrics/gynecology experience preferred.
• Must have privileges approved by sponsoring physician.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses, monitors and examines women during pregnancy.
• Develops, assesses and evaluates individual care programs.
• Provides full antenatal care, including screening tests.
• Identifies high risk pregnancies in collaboration with doctors.
• Arranges and provides parenting and health education for the woman and family.
• Encourages participation of family members in the birth and bonding.
• Provides guidance after events such as miscarriage or neonatal complications in collaboration with obstetricians.
• Intra-partum care and labor support within CNM scope at Brown University Health.
• Acts as liaison with outside agencies to ensure continuity of care.
• Engages in professional development and training of junior colleagues.
