Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support professional nursing staff in patient care within an acute care setting. You will measure vital signs, assist with hygiene and ADLs, and help with mobility and transportation tasks while maintaining patient privacy and safety.

The role requires CNA certification or enrollment in a nursing program with at least one clinical semester, basic medical terminology knowledge, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be Certified Nurses Assist. or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA).
• Approved workplace violence responder training program within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Accurately measures and records vital signs.
• Assists with patient care activities as directed by the RN, including specimen collection, turning & positioning, and patient transportation.
• Assists patient with hygiene, elimination, routine skin care, comfort measures and other Activities of Daily Living (ADL), maintaining patient privacy and safety.
• Demonstrates compassionate care and uses independent judgment in daily tasks.
• Receives and inventories patient belongings and conducts POCT quality controls as required.
