Job summary

The Houston Humane Society Clinic Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in delivering medical services to community animals. You will assist with examinations, vaccinations, testing and preventive care, and help the veterinarian provide treatment for health issues or injuries in shelter animals.

You will enter medical data into AviMark, assist in exam setups, and communicate care instructions to clients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with veterinary assistant certification.
• Fluent English with basic computer entry skills.
• Able to restrain animals and lift up to 30 lbs.
• Experience in a veterinary clinic environment preferred.
• Strong communication and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up examination areas and rooms.
• Assist veterinarian during examinations.
• Vaccinate and prepare medications; perform tests.
• Enter medical data into AviMark and maintain records.
• Explain services and results to clients.
• Maintain clean, safe examination areas and sanitation.
• Assist in other shelter areas as needed.
• Ensure humane handling of animals during procedures.
• End-of-day tasks including medication administration as needed.
