Job summary

UNC Health Johnston is seeking a per diem Behavioral Health Assistant to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients under close supervision. You will assist with admissions, orientation, and direct patient care under the direction of an RN.

The role involves one-on-one and group interactions, monitoring vital signs, and helping with daily activities while maintaining a calm, empathetic approach in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Nursing Assistant I certification preferred or required per NC standards.
• 1 year of relavent experience in a behavioral health environment.
• Fluency in English (verbal and written) and ability to use basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient care under supervision of RN.
• Provide safety, comfort, and basic therapeutic support.
• Facilitate age-appropriate activities and group sessions.
• Monitor patient conditions and report changes to supervising RN/physician.
• Assist with admissions, orientation, and daily living activities.
