Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant (BHA) to provide direct, non-clinical support to patients with behavioral health needs under RN supervision. You will assist with daily activities, observe patients, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

This role requires a high school diploma, prior patient-care experience or related studies, and the ability to follow de-escalation protocols.

Qualifications

• Must have direct patient care or observation experience.

Responsibilities

• Receive report on assigned patient and begin observations.
• Conduct continuous or intermittent patient observation as assigned.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly.
• Monitor and document patient behavior, mood, and activity per protocols.
• Assist patients with daily activities as directed by RN.
• Engage patients with compassionate interaction and recreational activities.
• De-escalate situations using approved verbal techniques for safety.
• Attend required training in de-escalation and safe patient handling.
• Maintain a safe, clean care area and protect patient privacy.
• Participate in staff meetings and development activities.
