Job summary

The Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada (ITCN) is seeking a reliable kitchen assistant to plan and prep meals for elders, following AoA Title VI and USDA guidelines. You will work from written menus, prepare meals, and ensure safe, sanitary service in a respectful environment.

Responsibilities include operating cooking equipment, managing food inventory and budgets, delivering meals when needed, and completing daily and monthly reports.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
• High school diploma or Higher Education Certificate.
• Possess or be able to obtain Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent telephone skills and the ability to communicate to Elders in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Excellent record keeping skills with Excel spreadsheets.
• Able to use a calculator and solve basic math calculations.
• Willing to occasionally travel for training/technical assistance.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Experience involving group food preparation or vocational training is desired.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning monthly menus and prepares meals according to AoA/USDA requirements with minimal waste.
• Operates standard cooking equipment and maintains appliances in a clean, safe condition.
• Purchase and inventory of food within budget and meal requirements.
• Receives and stores food and supplies with date of purchase.
• Ensures elders are served according to dietary guidelines in a pleasant environment.
• Clean the kitchen and dining areas after meals, maintaining safety and sanitation.
• Deliver meals to certified homebound elders when necessary.
• Complete daily, weekly and monthly reports on menus, meals served, money collected, and services performed.
• Distribute and collect eligibility paperwork for congregate and home-delivered meals and annual needs assessments.
• Work independently and exercise judgment for minor site issues.
