Job summary

Howard County Government is seeking dedicated individuals to join the County Animal Shelter team as Animal Care Attendants. You will care for animals, feed, exercise, clean kennels, and assist with clerical tasks at the shelter.

The role involves handling diverse species, supporting adoptions and public inquiries, and performing routine health checks. Starting hourly wage and annual equivalents are posted, with benefits including medical, retirement, and wellness programs.

Qualifications

• Experience in animal handling preferred.
• Must become certified in euthanasia within six months of hire.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Feed and water animals.
• Walk, exercise, and socialize animals.
• Clean, disinfect, and maintain cages, kennels, and surrounding areas.
• Perform physical examinations; check tattoos and microchips; trace license and rabies tags.
• Administer vaccinations, medications, first aid, fluids, and wound treatments.
• Quarantine animals suspected of rabies.
• Chart drugs and treatments administered.
• Interview adoption applicants and assist in adoption and euthanasia decisions.
• Communicate effectively with the public regarding animal control laws and pet care.
