Job summary

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio is seeking a Housekeeping & Companion Aide to maintain clean living spaces and provide compassionate companionship to elders. The role combines housekeeping tasks with supportive activities to promote emotional well-being.

You will perform cleaning duties, assist with meals, and help transport residents. This position requires reliability, basic safety training, and a commitment to high-quality elder care.

Responsibilities

• Housekeeping duties: sweep, mop, vacuum floors; clean toilets, sinks, showers; dust furniture; disinfect high-touch surfaces.
• Organize and clean cupboards and refrigerators; restock paper products; handle hazardous materials per safety rules.
• Provide one-on-one companionship, monitor elders' conditions, and facilitate mental stimulation activities.
• Assist with meal preparation and serving; transport elders to activities and appointments using company vehicles.

• Position Overview:

Asa Housekeeping & Companion Aide at MapleCrest, you will play a dual role in maintaining cleanliness andproviding companionship and support to elders. Your responsibilities includeensuring a safe and sanitary living environment while building meaningfulrelationships through engaging activities and one-on-one interaction.

Housekeeping Responsibilities:

• Performinga variety of housekeeping tasks such as:
  • Sweeping,mopping, and vacuuming floors.
  • Cleaningand sanitizing toilets, sinks, and showers.
  • Dustingfurniture and cleaning blinds, windows, and screens.
  • Disinfectinghigh-touch surfaces such as phones, remotes, and door handles.
• Organizingand cleaning cupboards and refrigerators.
• Restockingpaper products (toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, etc.).
• Properlyhandling hazardous and infectious materials in accordance with safetyprotocols.
• Reportingmalfunctioning equipment and maintenance concerns to the FacilitiesCoordinator.

Companion Responsibilities:

• Providingone-on-one companionship and assistance to elders, ensuring theiremotional and social well-being.
• Monitoringand reporting changes in elders’ conditions to the Facilities Coordinator.
• Engagingelders in activities that promote mental stimulation and socialinteraction.
• Assistingwith meal preparation, serving meals, and ensuring dietary needs are met.
• Transportingelders safely to off-site activities, medical appointments, and otherlocations using company vehicles.
• Cleaningand maintaining elders’ apartments, including laundry, bed-making, andgeneral tidying.
• Respondingto elder emergencies by providing first aid and administering CPR ifnecessary.

Qualifications:

• Willingnessto care for older adults and commitment to the organization’s mission.
• Familiaritywith household cleaning and laundering.
• Ability toread, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Must be atleast 18 years of age.
• Valid State of Ohio driver’s licensewith a clean driving record and ability to maintain insurability perEmployer policy.
• Ability tocomplete and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previousexperience in housekeeping, elder care, or companion roles.
• Knowledgeof infection control procedures, gerontology, and person-centered carepractices.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

• Ability tolift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly.
• Frequentstanding, bending, stooping, and kneeling for up to 15 consecutiveminutes.
• Working3.5 to 5 hours standing, walking, and moving without the need to sit.
• Exposureto cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, and potentially hazardous materials.
• Assistingelders in and out of vehicles, often in varied weather conditions.
• Work in avariety of environments, including busy kitchens, apartments, and outdoorareas.
