Start Your Career in Behavioral Health. Gain Field Experience While Making an Impact.

Are you a current master’s student or recent graduate in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field? MBI Health Services is offering a unique opportunity to work as a Community Support Worker (CSW) —a contract role that allows you to gain hands-on experience supporting individuals with serious mental illness and behavioral health needs in real-world settings.

As a CSW, you’ll work primarily in the field, helping clients develop life skills, access vital resources, and work toward greater independence. While this role does not count toward clinical or licensure hours , it provides invaluable experience working directly with vulnerable populations and being part of a multidisciplinary care team—perfect for those seeking exposure to behavioral health work and care coordination before fully entering the clinical field.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all MBI policies and procedures to ensure quality care in compliance with DC Mental Health Standards, MBI regulations, and all applicable Federal, State, and local laws.

  • Maintain confidentiality of consumer records and documentation in accordance with HIPAA and MBI policies.

  • Conduct interviews, collect assessments, and evaluate daily functioning to help identify areas requiring continued support, treatment, or additional resources.

  • Provide support in school, home, and community settings to help consumers function more independently and safely.

  • Facilitate physical, social, educational, and recreational activities.

  • Serve as a positive role model and support clients in developing coping, interpersonal, and daily living skills.

  • Identify and connect clients to appropriate community services, including social, educational, recreational, and economic supports.

  • Maintain ongoing collaboration and communication with external providers, agencies, school staff, and caregivers.

  • Recognize and effectively respond to potential crisis and emergency situations; inform Supervisor or Manager of incidents promptly and implement appropriate strategies.

  • Assist the case management team with identifying concerns and providing feedback for the development of the consumer’s Individual Recovery Plan.

  • Participate in treatment team meetings, supervisory sessions, and program trainings.

  • Provide a minimum of 25 billable SIDA hours (See, Intervene, Document, Approve) weekly.

  • Ensure all services contribute to a smooth transition for new clients and support a positive and respectful consumer experience.

  • Attend all required trainings and mandatory meetings.
