Role Overview

The Substance Abuse Counselor is part of a Community Support Team (CST) that includes a Therapist and other Qualified Professionals. The role involves providing counseling and support to clients with drug or alcohol dependency, and educating families to facilitate the recovery process.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive substance abuse assessments describing the relationship between the member’s mental health and substance use.
• Serve as a consultant and educator to fellow CST team members regarding integrated dual disorder treatment.
• Assist in the development of natural support networks.
• Provide individual and group supportive counseling.
• Monitor symptoms and medications and link individuals to appropriate services, agencies, and community supports.
• Write, implement, evaluate, and revise client’s person‑centered plan and overall treatment goals.
• Provide individual, family, and/or group therapy sessions.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Collaborate with care teams as needed.
• Maintain compliance with all clinical and regulatory standards.
• Participate in supervision (if applicable based on licensure level).

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree.
• Qualified Professional (QP) status with either an LCAS or LCAS-A (Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist).
• Active Driver’s License.
