Job summary

The Department of Community Supervision (DCS) in Georgia is seeking a Community Supervision Officer I to manage caseloads, conduct surveillance, and enforce probation and parole conditions in a hybrid work setting.

The role requires POST training, medical clearance, and completion of FTO. A bachelor's degree and POS T prerequisites are required. DCS offers flexible schedules, generous holidays, and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and must meet the prerequisites and complete the Georgia P.O.S.T. required Basic Community Supervision Officer Training (BCSOT).
• Two or more of the following preferred qualifications: degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration; internship/practicum/volunteer in probation, parole, corrections, law enforcement or related human services; knowledge of evidence-based supervision; experience in writing reports or case notes; experience with diverse populations; interview/intake/assessment experience.

Responsibilities

• This position requires wearing a uniform, a badge, and a firearm provided by the Department.
• Manages a caseload (creates a case plan; conducts surveillance in the community; enforces probation and parole conditions; investigates violations; provides linkage to community resources; makes referrals and case recommendations).
• Prepares, reviews, and maintains case files (background checks, DNA testing, drug testing, fingerprinting, photographing; writes case notes and reports; completes sentence computation and early terminations).
• Works with counselors and treatment providers; conducts screenings and assessments (substance use and mental health).
• Builds relationships with community stakeholders; conducts interviews; prepares testimony and testifies in court and parole revocation hearings.
• Conducts arrests and searches in office and field; performs other related duties.
