Job summary

New Horizons Resources Inc. seeks a dedicated caregiver to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a community residence in Pine Bush, NY. You will work with a team to promote integration and daily living skills under the guidance of a licensed nurse and program plans.

The role requires lifting, safety procedures, and strong teamwork. Regular hours include Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday shifts, with competitive benefits and training opportunities available.

Qualifications

• Ability to physically assist individuals as required; and, to intervene physically when appropriate using approved techniques to safeguard the individual, oneself and others during behavioral crises.
• Ability to assist in the evacuation of the community residence/van/facility in the event of an emergency in a manner consistent with agency and with OPWDD regulations/guidelines.
• Ability to relate appropriately to individuals with DD, their families and their advocates; and, to constructively relate to and communicate with peers and supervisors and to be able to function successfully as part of a team.
• Ability to work independently (when appropriate).
• Ability to use sound judgment while following agency policies, practices and procedures
• Ability to speak, read, and write English which allows full communication and participation with individuals served, their families, agency staff, and government visitors.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with developmental disabilities to successfully live in a group setting and promote community integration.
• Oversee day-to-day operations in the IRA/ICF in the absence of the Residence Coordinator.
• Work with the Residence Coordinator, Service Coordinators, other staff, and individuals served to ensure services follow the Individualized Service Plan and Residential Habilitation Plan.
