Job summary

The City of Mount Vernon is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and evaluate a wide range of community recreation programs, camps, and events. You will hire and supervise staff, manage budgets, and build partnerships with schools, youth programs, and community organizations.

Essential duties include program development, marketing, scheduling, and data reporting, with a focus on safe, inclusive, and engaging activities for all ages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Environmental Science, Sports Administration, Sports Management, or related field.
• Five years of municipal or government recreation experience with at least two years in supervision.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and evaluate recreation programs, events, and camps.
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.
• Develop budgets, track expenditures, and prepare financial reports.
• Coordinate with schools, partners, and internal departments for programs and events.
• Promote programs via flyers, social media, and digital ads.
• Manage registration, facility use, and program records.
