Job summary

The Joseph T. Simpson Public Library is seeking a Programming and Outreach Assistant to take the library into the community and deliver library services beyond its walls.

This position will assist the Adult Programming Coordinator in developing and delivering library programming that responds to the community’s needs and desires for knowledge, understanding, enrichment, entertainment, and connection. Hours: Part time, 20-25 hours per week, non-exempt, including daytime, evening, Saturday and

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
• Experience in event planning, professional relationship-building, and customer service.
• Experience working effectively with a wide variety of people and personality types.
• Assist in the development and delivery of library programming for adults, whether at the library, at the Learning & Book Sale Center, or out in the community.
• Develop relationships and contacts with other organizations and people in the library service area.
• Provide outreach services to educate the public about library programs, services, and collections.
• Assist the Adult Programming Coordinator with marketing, program registration, statistics, and attendance records.
• Serve as library staff at select programs in the library, at the Learning & Book Sale Center, or out in the community.
• Assist in the evaluation of programming and outreach services.
• Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and delivering library programming for adults, whether at the library, at outreach sites, or in the community.
• Support the Adult Programming Coordinator with marketing, registrations, and attendance records.
• Represent the library enthusiastically at community events and build new partnerships.
• Evaluate programming and outreach services to improve impact.
