Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is looking for an Urban Planner based in Oakdale or Chaska, MN. This role will involve guiding planning studies and engaging with community members while contributing to long-term planning efforts. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field, along with at least four years of relevant experience.

The position offers a competitive salary between $75,000 and $105,000 based on experience, and a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, a 401(k) match program, and paid time off.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years of progressive planning experience.
  • AICP certification preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites.

Location

This position may be located in Oakdale or Chaska, MN.

Employment Eligibility

Bolton & Menk will not provide visa sponsorship or optional practical training extensions. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. at the start of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Guide planning studies, land development reviews, and entitlement efforts from concept through implementation.
  • Analyze data, develop clear and visually compelling reports, and translate complex planning topics into practical, actionable solutions.
  • Lead presentations, facilitate meetings, and engage directly with community members, public officials, developers, and project partners to build alignment and progress projects.
  • Deepen experience in land use and project communication while taking on greater ownership and visibility across projects; contribute to long‑range planning and comprehensive plans for clients.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a closely related field with at least four years of progressive planning experience.
  • AICP certification preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in GIS and its planning applications.
  • General knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong skills in client needs assessment, meeting service quality standards, and evaluating client satisfaction.
  • Valid driver’s license; travel to various facilities and job sites may be required.
Salary

$75,000 – $105,000 depending on years of experience and credentials.
