Job summary

National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) is seeking a Community Planner to support the National Park Service program in Lakewood, CO. The role centers on outdoor recreation and conservation planning with a 20-hour work week and a $60.00 per hour wage.

The incumbent will collaborate with regional and national managers, analyze data, draft plan sections, and prepare public-facing materials. Occasional in-person meetings and travel may be required for project coordination.

Qualifications

  • MA/MS Degree in Planning (Urban, Regional, City, Community) with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) in outdoor recreation, park, trail or conservation planning
  • Community planning, social science/planning research, writing, and oral communication. Read and analyze electronic maps.
  • Experience with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook; Adobe Creative Suite and/or ArcGIS considered a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Regional Project Managers and National Program Managers to fulfill project work plans for outdoor recreation and conservation planning.
  • Analyzes demographic and facility data and drafts plan sections. Writes portions of park and trail plans.
  • Creates public meeting presentations and agendas, and prepares project fact sheets and updates.
  • Attends virtual meetings with RTCA staff and partners; some in-person engagement may be required.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. Qualifications

  • Community planning, social science/planning research, writing, and oral communication. Read and analyze electronic maps.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design) and/or ArcGIS experience a plus, but not necessary.
Duties

Works closely with Regional Project Managers and National Program Managers to fulfill project work plans through tasks such as: outdoor recreation and conservation related planning research; analysis of demographic and facility data; writing portions of park and trail plans; and creating goals, objectives and strategies. The planner will attend virtual meetings with project partners and participate in coordination with partners. The planner may also: assist in planning and implementing community engagement strategies, creating presentations and public facing documents, and synthesizing information. In person engagement and facilitation will be required for some project work.

  • Works with NPS RTCA staff and local partners through a collaborative planning process to conduct appropriate research and create realistic goals, objectives, strategies and recommendations for master, management, comprehensive and strategic plans.40%
  • Works with NPS RTCA staff to research and analyze local data and best practices on outdoor recreation and conservation related topics and writes summaries for inclusion in plans and other work products for project partners30%
  • Works with NPS RTCA staff to create public meeting presentations and agendas, create documents such as project fact sheets and updates, and assists in coordinating with multiple partners.20%
  • Attends virtual meetings with RTCA project staff and partners. Site visits to project locations may be required for some projects.10%
Other
  • Overnight travel: Travel to facilitate in person meeting, co-facilitate with RTCA project manager or program managers, approximately one week every 2 months.
  • Air travel anticipated: approximately one week every 2 months
  • Health and Safety Considerations: The experienced worker would be expected to follow the same NPS safety protocols as IMR RTCA Project Managers. Safety protocols and checklists would be provided
  • Required Safety Gear: Yes, when traveling for site visits, the experienced worker would be provided with any needed safety equipment (e.g. first aid kit).
  • Physical requirements: Occasional site visits that require hiking or walking. Not required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
