Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) is a leading nonprofit in Austin, known for its no-kill movement and innovative animal welfare practices. The organization rescues, treats, and adopts out thousands of animals annually, promoting community-based rescue work and collaboration through initiatives like American Pets Alive! and the Human Animal Support Services (HASS).

Position Overview

The Community Placement Program Manager will lead a volunteer team to facilitate the quick and joyful placement of animals from foster care to adoption through community events, offsite adoption centers, and DIY adoption programs. The role involves designing engaging community events, managing offsite venues, and coordinating foster and medical services to ensure animals are ready for adoption.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Volunteer Leadership & Coordination: Recruit, train, and support volunteers for offsite events and community engagement.
  2. Foster & DIY Adoptions: Coordinate with foster caregivers, manage pre-adoption services, and oversee DIY adoption programs.
  3. Event Planning & Execution: Develop and manage a calendar of community events, oversee weekend events, and track event outcomes.
  4. Offsite Adoption Centers: Serve as primary contact for partners like PetSmart, train staff and volunteers, and ensure centers are well-stocked and active.
  5. Collaboration & Data Tracking: Work with marketing and other teams to promote events, track engagement metrics, and evaluate program success.
Additional Duties
  • Participate in training and team meetings.
  • Maintain communication with the Program Manager and colleagues.
  • Partner with Volunteer Managers and manage volunteer engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum 2 years in event management, volunteer coordination, or related fields.
  • Experience managing volunteers or staff effectively.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs, work outdoors, and handle animals safely.
  • Alignment with APA! values of innovation, respect, and inclusion.
  • Availability on weekends and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • Experience in retail or animal placement.
  • Familiarity with shelter and volunteer management platforms.
Physical & Work Environment
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and work in various environments, including outdoors.
  • Comfort working with animals, including potentially aggressive or sick animals.
  • Exposure to environmental hazards typical of animal care settings.
Work Schedule & Location
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week with flexible scheduling.
  • Locations include various APA! centers in Austin, TX, with travel to offsite locations as needed.
  • Some after-hours, weekend, and holiday work required.
