Job summary

Tahoe Forest Health System Community Pharmacist role provides safe, high-quality pharmacy services including dispensing, counseling, immunizations, and clinical care within scope of practice.

Collaborates with patients, prescribers, and healthcare professionals to optimize therapy and outcomes; supports pharmacy operations and program growth across the Health District.

Rate of Pay: $87.58/hour + DOE (Base pay of $83.41/hour includes 5% temporary rate)

Summary

The Community Pharmacist provides safe, high-quality, patient-centered pharmacy services, including medication dispensing, counseling, immunizations, and clinical services within scope of practice. Collaborates with patients, caregivers, prescribers, and healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and patient outcomes. Supports efficient, compliant pharmacy operations and the growth of Community Pharmacy services across the Health District. Reports to the Community Pharmacy Director and may oversee pharmacy technicians and support staff as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Care

• Verify and dispense medications safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws and policies.
• Assess medication therapy for safety, effectiveness, interactions, dosing, adherence, and cost.
• Resolve medication-related problems and collaborate with prescribers and healthcare professionals.
• Provide counseling, education, immunizations, and pharmacist-led services such as medication management and reconciliation as authorized.
• Support medication access, adherence, transitions of care, and continuity of care.

Pharmacy Operations

Oversee daily prescription workflow, patient services, inventory, billing, and medication access.

Direct and support pharmacy technicians and staff within their authorized scope.

Manage medication inventory and controlled substances in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Support efficient workflow, patient access, and service development.

Quality & Compliance

Promote medication safety, quality improvement, and positive patient outcomes.

Report medication errors, adverse events, and safety concerns.

Maintain compliance with California and federal pharmacy laws, HIPAA, and Health District policies.

Maintain accurate documentation and support audits, inspections, and accreditation activities.

Technology & Leadership

Use pharmacy software systems, automation, and clinical technology effectively.

Assign and prioritize workflow, address operational concerns, and communicate significant issues to the Community Pharmacy Director.

Support training, competency development, and a collaborative, patient-centered work environment.

Minimum Education/Experience

Doctoral Degree Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and 2-3 years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

California Pharmacist

• Knowledge of California and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.

Preferred

2–3 years of community/outpatient pharmacy experience.

• PioneerRx and/or EPIC prefered.
• Experience with immunizations, medication therapy management, chronic disease management, or medication reconciliation.
• Experience with collaborative practice, insurance billing, prior authorizations, controlled substances inventory and reconciliation.
  15. Experience with quality improvement and pharmacy staff leadership.
