Job summary

New Virginia Majority (NVM) seeks a part-time Community Organizer in Richmond, VA. You will recruit, engage, activate and retain formerly incarcerated people and their families as members, develop their leadership, and support statewide campaigns to build community-led voting clubs.

Responsibilities include door-to-door canvassing, event mobilization, tracking engagement in databases, and producing timely digital content.

Community Organizer

POSITION TYPE:

LOCATION:
Richmond, VA

DESCRIPTION:
New Virginia Majority is looking to hire a part-time community organizer who will recruit, engage, activate and retain formerly incarcerated people and their loved ones as members, develop their leadership, and work with our Statewide Campaign Coordinator to help build community-based leadership teams that we call 'right to vote clubs.'

  • Build strong relationships and identify and develop leaders into clear roles. Timely and aggressive follow up with leads generated by field efforts including one-on-one meetings, and tabling activities (adhering to physical distancing), and online recruitment
  • Door to door canvassing in a wide range of communities.
  • Mobilize and track engagement of members and activists at various events and field opportunities in databases.
  • Support staff in maintaining robust presence on all digital platforms including email, social media and website, producing compelling, timely content
  • Support digital campaigns strategies to grow online membership and engagement of our online supporters in taking action.
  • Support building graphics for campaigns
  • Help drive social media, email, online advertising strategy
  • Provide support to leaders.
  • Familiar with the criminal justice reform sector either personally or through professional experience.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed to New Virginia Majority's mission of social, racial and economic justice.
  • Preferably 2-3 years experience with grassroots organizing, specifically issue campaigns.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a variety of relationships on multiple levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines; able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy.
  • Self-motivated and works well both independently and on a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to take direction and constructive feedback.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills
  • Ability to both rapidly respond to day-to-day needs while receiving and implementing bigger projects over time
  • Driver's license and access to a car.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

$27/hr, with monthly gas stipend
