About the role:

We’re building something special at Captions, and our community is at the heart of it. As our Community Manager, you’ll have the unique opportunity to lead and shape vibrant communities for both individual creators and innovative businesses pushing the boundaries of AI-powered content creation. You’ll serve as the face of the Captions community, bringing people together, sparking conversations, and helping creators at every level succeed with our tools. This role combines online engagement, live event hosting, and the chance to build meaningful relationships with creators and companies who are redefining what’s possible in video, audio, and AI. If you're energized by the creator economy, passionate about generative technology, and love building thriving communities from the ground up, this is your chance to make a major impact.

In this role, you will own and manage two distinct communities:

1. Captions App: A vibrant community of customers creating and editing short-form content, supporting individual creators, influencers, editors, and marketers.

2. Mirage Studio: A growing B2B community focused on businesses integrating AI-generated actors and generative media into their production workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

• Community Building: Build, moderate, and grow Captions’ community spaces, primarily in Discord, Slack, and Reddit, with a proven track record of having successfully built and scaled communities on these platforms.

• Special Programs and Initiatives: Create and own the success of special initiatives. For example, Customer Advisory Board, Beta Tester Program, and Ambassador Program.

• Product Comms: Update and educate customers on feature launches and enhancements via changelog, release notes, and monthly newsletters.

• Strategy: Develop tailored strategies for both communities to foster thriving, engaged groups, converting casual customers into enthusiastic promoters of our company and products.

• Events & In-Person Engagement: Organize and host regular in-person community events, roundtables, panels, fireside chats, and workshops at our New York office. Serve as the Captions community representative at external industry events, conferences, and creator meetups.

• Customer Spotlights: Showcase customers’ work, celebrate their success stories, and turn our customers into heroes.

Requirements:

• Creator Economy Expertise: Direct experience as a creator, influencer, video editor, or producer, with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the dynamic and ever-evolving creator economy. Having walked a mile in our customers’ shoes is essential.

• B2B and B2C Experience: Demonstrated experience building and engaging communities for both business and consumer audiences, understanding the nuances and opportunities unique to each.

• AI and Generative Tech Passion: A deep passion for AI, generative video, audio, and related technologies, with curiosity and enthusiasm for where these technologies are heading.

• Community Management Experience: Minimum of 2+ years in a community management or customer engagement role, preferably in the creator or tech space, with a proven track record of successfully building and scaling online communities.

• Content Creator Community Background: Experience building and managing communities around content creators such as podcasts, YouTube channels, or personal creator brands, rather than traditional marketing or social media management.

• Familiarity with Creator Tools: Hands-on experience with tools commonly used by creators such as Descript, Riverside.fm, CapCut, Premiere, or similar platforms.

• On-Camera Presence: Exceptional comfort appearing on camera, with the ability to host live events, record video content for community engagement, and confidently represent Captions at external events.

• Content Creation Skills: Proven ability to write scripts, storyboard, shoot, and edit engaging, high-quality videos that resonate with creators for social media and community channels.
