Qualifications

• Three years of full-time experience in counseling, community work or community health activities in a government agency or community organization.
• Substitution options include a six-month training program or thirty credits in sociology, psychology or behavioral science.
• Preference will be given to applicants with a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Interview local residents, landlords, and government personnel to solicit support for community development programs.
• Interview staff and representatives of governmental, educational, and social agencies and unions for information transmission.
• Assist in the preparation and distribution of informational materials.
• Assist in the training of subordinate staff.
• Make written and oral reports as required.
• Keep records related to programs and activities.
• Direct staff or coordinate field office operations or units.
• Maintain liaison with residents, landlords, community organizations, schools, unions and agencies.
• Explain programs and policies to communities and interpret information from the community.
• Participate in planning and implementation of programs involving community participation and outreach.
• Mediating problems between the community and schools, hospitals and City agencies.
• Provide supportive therapy and refer to City agencies and services.
• Counsel residents and businesses on rights and resources.
• Recommend mobilization for participation and program feasibility.
