Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a Community Liaison worker to support housing development and public service programs. You will conduct outreach, collect community needs data, and coordinate with city agencies and organizations to mobilize participation.

The role requires strong communication, the ability to work independently, and experience with web-based applications. Preference for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of full-time experience in counseling, community work or community health activities in a government agency or community organization providing public services.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above; completion of a six (6) month training program may substitute six (6) months of experience; college study in sociology/psychology may substitute per credits, with at least one year of full-time experience required.
• Preference will be given to applicants with a high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s DOE or accrediting organization.

Responsibilities

• Interviews residents, landlords, government personnel, and community members to solicit support for development programs.
• Directs staff or coordinates field office operations; maintains liaison with residents, community groups, and agencies.
• Explains programs and policies to community groups and relays information between communities and city agencies.
• Participates in planning and implementing programs involving community participation and outreach.
• Mediates problems between communities and schools, hospitals, and City agencies; makes referrals to health and social services.
• Assists in forming multidisciplinary teams providing supportive therapy and referrals.
