Job summary

Bronx Community Board No. 8 is seeking a Community Associate to support the District Manager and 50-member board for neighborhoods including Fieldston, Kingsbridge, Riverdale, and Spuyten Duyvil.

The role supports advisory functions on land use, zoning, city services, and communications with agencies. Evening meetings and occasional weekends are expected. Strong organizational and written communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or related duties.
• Equivalent education/experience to satisfy the above requirement.

Responsibilities

• Assist the District Manager in monitoring municipal services and respond to constituent concerns
• Work with committee chairs on routine assignments, agendas and minutes
• Ensure day-to-day office operations run efficiently
• Review and approve invoices in the Financial Management System (FMS)
• Draft content for the Board’s monthly e-newsletter and social media
• Prepare formal correspondence to agencies and elected officials
• Monitor and respond to correspondence, conduct basic research and track data
• Take minutes at monthly meetings and submit drafts on time
• Ensure notices and minutes are posted and distributed timely
• Prepare attendance and other routine reports
• Maintain board files in paper and electronic form
• Attend 1-2 monthly Board meetings and some evening/weekend events
• Support the Board and District Manager with miscellaneous tasks
