Job summary

University Settlement Society Of New York seeks a part-time kitchen aide to support breakfast and dining room operations at 189 Allen Street, NYC. You will work with the Program Director and Chef to help prepare, serve, and clean meals, ensuring safe handling and proper storage of foods.

The role requires some kitchen experience, ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and basic English communication. Shifts are Monday through Friday, 10:00am–1:00pm or 9:30am–1:00pm, totaling ~17 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• NYC DOHMH Food Handler’s Certificate preferred; must obtain upon hire.
• Some kitchen/cooking experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Must lift 25–40 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to read, write, and speak some English.
• Friendly and professional demeanor with clients and staff.
• Prior experience with older adults a plus.

Responsibilities

• General kitchen duties for breakfast and dining room service.
• Operate and clean kitchen equipment (coffee maker, dishwasher, ovens, steam table, mixer).
• Maintain safe temperatures and storage for food items.
• Assist with preparing, serving, portioning, and packing meals.
