HANAC, Inc. in New York seeks a part-time Kitchen Aide to support food preparation, service, and kitchen cleaning at the HANAC Harmony JVL Older Adult Center in Astoria.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and a willingness to work 5 days a week with shift times from 9am to 2pm or 8:30am to 2:00pm. Hourly rate listed as $20.7180.

Qualifications

• Maintain clean and orderly kitchen areas and equipment.
• Set up and breakdown cafeteria tables and chairs as needed.
• Prep meat or vegetables per Head Cook’s request and assist with service.
• Clean Walk-in fridge & freezers daily.
• Clean milk cooler and rotate milk stock daily.
• Take inventory and organize storage rooms.
• Assist with events and other tasks as required.
• Adhere to sanitation standards and participate in trainings.

Job Summary

The Kitchen Aide will be involved in all aspects of food preparation and service, as well as the cleanup of the kitchen and service area, dining room, and storage areas. In this role, you will support all aspects of food preparation, service, and facility cleanliness. This position requires a team player who is physically capable of handling dishwashing of heavy pots & pans, cleaning, stock and inventory, physical moving of program and kitchen items, and is able to substitute for prep or custodial staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Wash pots, pans and cooking utensils by hand. Sanitize trays and other items in dishwasher after handwashing.
• Transfer supplies and equipment between delivery point, storage, and work areas for kitchen and senior program. Unpack and store morning deliveries.
• Clean up spills in the kitchen and senior center.
• Empty garbage cans and recycling bins and place outside for disposal or recycling.
• Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition.
• Set up and breakdown cafeteria tables and chairs when needed.
• Prep of meat or vegetables at Head Cook’s request and assist with food service, as needed.
• Clean Walk in Fridge & Freezers daily.
• Clean milk cooler and rotate milk stock daily.
• Take inventory, clean, and organize storage rooms.
• Assist in any additional service required by special events and parties.
• Perform other tasks as requested and assigned
• Maintain adherence to all sanitation standards
• Attend all training as required

Qualifications:

• Highschool diploma/ GED

• Knowledge of Food Service and Stock Room and Delivery experience
• The ability to lift 50 lbs. (23 kg), perform physical cleaning and cooking tasks, and stand for 5 hours
