Job summary

Umpqua Bank is seeking a seasoned Community Impact professional to liaise with nonprofits, government agencies, and diverse communities. You will lead philanthropic and economic development initiatives, identify lending opportunities in underserved markets, and drive CRA programs across multiple regions.

The role requires data analysis, compliance experience, and strong stakeholder management. Travel will be frequent, and a proactive, collaborative mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 5+ years in corporate responsibility including nonprofit relationships, community engagement, volunteerism, philanthropy, or CRA compliance.
  • Strong external and internal relationship management.
  • Ability to represent the bank in community and economic development activities and build relationships with nonprofits, government agencies, and underserved communities.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and compliance including audits and exams.
  • Experience designing and improving programs targeting low-to-moderate-income communities.
  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments focused on equitable philanthropic investments.
  • Knowledge of Mortgage Lending, Small Business Banking, Financial Education, Workforce/Economic Development, and Affordable Housing.
  • Experience with strategic planning for full state markets.
  • General banking knowledge and identifying opportunities in underserved markets.
  • Ability to work across public, private, nonprofit sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and related tools.
  • Must be registered as an MLO under SAFE Act; Bank Closed-End MLO authorization; Truth-in-Lending Act compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between the bank and community organizations across its footprint.
  • Support community impact strategies and manage philanthropic and economic development initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand lending and investment in underserved markets.
  • Represent the bank in community and economic development activities.
  • Build relationships with nonprofits, government agencies, and LMI and minority communities.
  • Lead and support community impact, CRA, and Community Benefits Agreement campaigns and outreach strategies.
  • Support community impact data analysis and audit and compliance exam tasks.
  • Act as a business development and referral source in large, complex markets.
  • Identify and refer business lending opportunities and develop processes for LMI opportunities.
  • Facilitate policies for high-impact philanthropic and community development programs.
  • Provide strategic planning and market analysis across assigned regions.
  • Manage Regional Community Impact Leadership Committees.
  • Participate in programs targeting LMI individuals and communities.
  • Source and structure bank investments in LIHTC, NMTC, SBIC, and related grants/PRIs.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local consumer protection laws and bank regulations.
  • Complete required training and maintain knowledge of applicable policies and regulations.
  • Coach, mentor, or train others as SME when requested.
  • Foster Umpqua corporate culture and personal initiative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Manage Regional Community Impact Leadership Committees

  • Participate in programs targeting low-to-moderate-income individuals, families, and communities

  • Source, analyze, and structure bank investments in LIHTC, NMTC, SBIC, equity investments, community development grants, and PRIs

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local consumer protection laws and bank regulations

  • Complete required annual or job-specific training and maintain knowledge of applicable policies and regulations

  • Coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as a subject matter expert when requested

  • Foster the Umpqua corporate culture and model personal initiative

Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Non-Profit Management, Business or related field, or equivalent work experience required
