Job summary

The Community Health Worker (CHW) at Virtua Health works to improve access to care by outreach, helping overcome barriers through advocacy, resource navigation, and social supports. The CHW builds trust with diverse communities and connects people to Virtua Health services to improve wellbeing.

Responsibilities include conducting preventive health screenings, delivering health education, enrolling community members in programs, coordinating appointments, and assisting with event setups.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in community, social justice, public health and/or local economies.
• Bi-Lingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.
• Must have excellent customer service skills and ability to thrive in a dynamic team atmosphere.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of community resources preferred.
• Certifications per hiring department requirements (eg: ServSafe Certification).
• May require a valid Driver’s License based on specific hiring program.

Job Information:

*This position is associated with the NJ DOH Rural Health Grant, ending 10/30/26, with the possibility of a 4‑year renewal.

Schedule:
Part Time - 20 hours per week.
During the hours of Monday - Friday, 8:00-5:00pm, could include night, 1:00pm-7:00pm, also includes 1 Saturday per month. Based on community events calendar.

The CHW focuses on bridging the gap between diverse communities and Virtua Health by fostering relationships, developing trust, and providing resources to improve the overall wellbeing of the community.

Position Qualifications Required:

Required Experience:

• Demonstrated interest in community, social justice, public health and/or local economies. Must display ease and comfort with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions and demonstrate the ability to treat all people with equity and respect. Able to work independently and interdependently with other staff and volunteers.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of community resources preferred.
• Must have excellent customer service skills and ability to thrive in a dynamic team atmosphere.
• Bi‑Lingual (Spanish) strongly preferred

Hourly Rate: $21.85 - $32.83 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant's experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
