Job summary

Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV) is hiring a Roots Program, Community Food Systems Planner to support Kalihi residents by planning and organizing events with diverse stakeholders. The role aims to increase access to local, healthy foods and promote culturally relevant food education.

The position strengthens resource mapping and policy education in collaboration with the Kalihi community, with priority for multilingual and multicultural candidates and those connected to Kalihi’s ahupuaʻa.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with multicultural staff and community.
• Effective verbal and written communications.
• Strong interpersonal skills for facilitating group discussions.
• Familiarity with community-based research protocols, including survey design and implementation.
• Effective problem solving and analytical decision-making skills.
• Leadership and management experience.
• Ability to create and design educational tools for community.
• Ability to update and maintain website.
• Knowledge of local food system and food system policy.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Bilingual/ bicultural skills, preferred.
• Knowledge of Kalihi Valley community and cultures, preferred.
• Ability to conceptualize and synthesize multiple sources of information into coherent narratives, preferred.
• Education/Training: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or related field.
• Education/Training: Master's degree in related field, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, facilitate, and organize community gatherings with stakeholders.
• Increase access to local, healthy and culturally relevant foods.
• Increase community food system education and resource sharing.
• Strengthen community resource mapping and policy education with partners.
• Engage Kalihi community members and stakeholders; emphasize multilingual/multicultural inclusion.
• Special consideration for biliteracy candidates.
