A strong sense of duty and professionalism are essential, with on-call rotation and safety-sensitive responsibilities. Required are a High School Diploma or GED, NC BLET certification, a valid NC driver’s license, and knowledge of local laws and procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLET Certification required.
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of police procedures, criminal and traffic law, and departmental regulations.
• Ability to use sound judgment in high-pressure situations and communicate effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with public, peers, court personnel and agencies.
• Firearms safety and operation of emergency vehicles.
• Familiarity with Morehead City geography is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to monitor for criminal activity.
• Responds to calls, issues citations, investigates accidents, and assists the public.
• Interviews witnesses, collects evidence, writes reports, and testifies in court.
• Enforces laws and ensures public safety and welfare.
• Provides welfare checks, motorist assistance, escorts, and crime prevention education.
