Job summary

The Town of Nags Head Police Department is seeking a Police Officer to serve the community through patrols, traffic enforcement, investigations, and rapid response to calls for service. A valid North Carolina driver’s license and a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate (BLET) are required, or eligibility for lateral transfer.

As a Police Officer, you will participate in a career progression program with automatic increases after completing career steps and ongoing training opportunities to advance

Qualifications

• Knowledge of state and local laws relevant to policing.
• Ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely.
• Experience in handling calls for service and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Patrol streets by car, bike or on foot and check premises.
• Respond to calls for assistance and handle disputes.
• Investigate traffic accidents and issue citations.
• Perform investigations, arrests and testify in court.
• Regulate traffic at busy times and ensure public safety.
• Maintain records and reports of activities.
• Advise the public on laws and ordinances.
• Assist stranded motorists and support emergency scenes.
