Job summary

Green & Healthy Homes Initiative seeks a highly motivated Community Engagement and Education Coordinator for its Baltimore, MD office. You will lead outreach, education, and partnership activities across Maryland, engaging Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County and statewide partners.

You will plan events, build external relationships, and ensure grant deliverables while coordinating with MDH and other agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Communications/Marketing, Social Work, Health, or relevant field
  • 2+ years of experience in outreach and education working with diverse communities including low-income communities of color
  • Cultural competency and strong interpersonal skills for interacting with colleagues, clients and program partners of all demographic and professional levels
  • Experience in Environmental Health, Healthy Homes, Child Advocacy, or Public Health
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to deliver information concisely and understandably including strong presentation and training skills
  • Experience in grassroots advocacy and organizing efforts
  • Willingness to travel for meetings and events
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and Excel
  • Flexibility, initiative, and a collaborative spirit
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Valid driver license and reliable automobile for travel to in-person outreach events
  • Preferred: Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach and education events, presentations and trainings to advance mission and meet grant/contract requirements
  • Assist with planning for major outreach events like Lead Poisoning Prevention Week and the Maryland Asthma Summit
  • Plan and organize outreach events in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, and across Maryland
  • Build relationships with state agencies, partners and community organizations for climate and health initiatives
  • Develop new community and stakeholder partnerships statewide including health care innovators
  • Recruit partners and coordinate bi-monthly Maryland Partnership meetings
  • Coordinate with staff to cover outreach events, trainings and deliverables
  • Recruit, train, and supervise outreach event volunteers as part of a GHHI Volunteer Program
  • Attend internal outreach meetings and MDH grant/contract meetings to report progress
  • Organize and facilitate in-person events, trainings, webinars and advisory meetings with families and partners

The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works across the United States to address the unhealthy housing conditions in America’s lowest income communities. GHHI supports housing, environmental health, and energy efficiency services for families in communities around the country, as well as conducting direct services in Maryland and other GHHI sites. Community Engagement and Education Coordinator - Roles and Responsibilities:

We are currently seeking a Community Engagement and Education Coordinator for our Baltimore, Maryland office. The Coordinator will play an integral role in the Maryland Programs Department team by providing outreach, community engagement and partnership development for programs that serve communities including Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County and across the State of Maryland. The Coordinator will build relationships with community organizations and key stakeholders and solicit support from GHHI’s Communications Department and members of Maryland Programs to help lead Outreach and Education to unprecedented levels of impact and effectiveness for families and seniors in Maryland.

Outreach and Education Coordination
  • Responsible for conducting outreach and education events, presentations and trainings to advance mission and meet all related outreach program grant and contract requirements including deliverables, reporting and data collection.
  • Assist with the implementation of plans for all major outreach events including, but not limited to: Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, Healthy Homes Month and the annual Maryland Asthma Summit.
  • Plan and organize outreach events in priority target areas such as: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
  • Responsible for conducting outreach and education and cultivating cross sector stakeholders to support climate and health awareness and related initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and effective communication with key external stakeholders including state agency officials, statewide partners, local health departments, health care partners, and local community organizations and leaders.
  • Responsible for annually developing new community and stakeholder partners to expand GHHI’s networks and reach statewide including with public health agencies and health care insurers and providers.
  • Recruit partners and help in conducting bi-monthly Maryland Partnership meetings.
  • Coordinate with outreach and program staff to cover all outreach events, trainings and deliverables.
  • Responsible for recruiting, developing, training and utilizing external outreach event volunteers where applicable as part of a GHHI Volunteer Program that is overseen by the Coordinator position.
  • Participate in monthly internal outreach program meetings and report on deliverables and goals.
  • Participate in monthly Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and other state and local agency grant/contract meetings to report on progress on contract deliverables.
  • Organize, attend in-person and conduct outreach events, trainings, presentations, webinars and advisory committee meetings with parents, agencies, partners and community-based organizations on lead poisoning, asthma and household injury prevention and climate change mitigation and energy efficiency awareness.
  • Prepare and maintain a GHHI Outreach Calendar of Events with the Community Engagement and Education Manager of all current and upcoming events and trainings that is shared monthly with GHHI Maryland Programs Department staff and Communications Department staff. Help maintain an Events Calendar on GHHI website of key outreach events, webinars and trainings.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of the directory of all community partners and health organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned related to organizational mission and programs.
Educational, Marketing and Resource Materials
  • Create new and updated marketing, outreach and training materials for Maryland Programs to include lead, asthma, healthy homes, energy efficiency, and climate program marketing pamphlets, educational materials, flyers and newsletters.
  • Provide content and event photos for regular social media, Constant Contact and other postings.
  • Create and update Power Point presentations for training, webinars and presentations.
  • Review and revise all outreach and education materials, as necessary.
  • Organize and inventory outreach collateral and materials on at least a monthly basis.
  • In coordination with Community Engagement and Education Manager , order outreach materials to maintain adequate supplies in advance of events and in adherence with all purchase order processes and internal controls.
  • Develop and complete Maryland Statewide Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Resources Guide.
Community Engagement, Marketing and Client Enrollment
  • Responsible for community engagement and marketing to reach partnering organizations and clients directly in at risk, target communities in Maryland as directed by GHHI contracts and grants as well as outreach goals and strategic plan.
  • Produce effective community and prospective client engagement that includes increasing awareness and results in measurable client applicants and enrollment of clients in GHHI, local and state health prevention, housing intervention and energy efficiency services programs.
Data
  • Implement GHHI tracking methodologies for all outreach event attendees, which includes participant sign-in sheets and pre-intake data entry into Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) Database for reporting and referral to GHHI or other community programs and resources.
  • Assure proper data collection and ETO database data entry in adherence with program requirements for reporting and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement and Education Manager to ensure ETO Outreach data touchpoints have proper functionality, data collection and program reporting capabilities.
