Position Title: Part-time Community Education: Educational Assistant for Adult Basic Education Classroom

Work Schedule: 5.0 hrs per day, Monday - Thursday. Student contact days only.

Job Summary: The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Classroom Assistant supports instructors in delivering educational services to adult learners working toward improving their literacy, math, English language, and workforce readiness skills. The assistant provides instructional support, helps maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and assists with administrative tasks such as preparing materials, monitoring student progress, and providing one-on-one or small-group support. This role requires strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to adult education and lifelong learning.

Educational/Experience Requirements

• Educational Background:
• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Coursework or degree in education, adult education, social work, or related field (preferred)
• Experience:
• Previous experience working with adult learners or in an educational setting
• Experience providing academic support, tutoring, or mentoring
• Familiarity with Adult Basic Education, GED prep, or English Language Learning (ELL/ESL)
• Instructional Support Skills:
• Ability to assist learners with reading, writing, math, or computer literacy
• Comfortable leading small groups or offering one-on-one academic support
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and differentiated instruction
• Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse adult populations
• Ability to build rapport and maintain respectful relationships with adult learners
• Organizational & Technical Skills:
• Ability to assist with classroom setup, attendance tracking, and instructional materials
• Basic computer proficiency (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, etc.)
• Familiarity with digital learning tools or educational software (a plus)
• Teamwork & Professionalism:
• Willingness to collaborate with instructors and program staff
• Dependability, flexibility, and professionalism in a classroom environment
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respectful classroom conduct
• Language Skills (optional but valued):
• Bilingual or multilingual skills, especially in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, or other common languages spoken by adult learners
