Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The Shop Janitor is responsible for keeping the building in a clean and orderly condition.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming daily and as needed
• Service and clean all restrooms
• Dust walls, machines and equipment
• Clean windows
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and grounds and building maintenance as necessary
• Remove snow from walkways using snow shovels and spread snow melting chemicals
• Liaise with supervisor on problems to achieve efficient repair
• Identify abnormalities and repairs required within the building and advise the supervisors accordingly
• Identify areas of process improvement, cost and waste reduction
• Work in an efficient and timely manner
• Undertake relevant training and development as required
• Carry out duties within a realistic time line ensuring that deadlines are met
• Maintain cooperative working relationship and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks
• Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs and trash receptacles to prepare facilities for company events and meetings
• Adhere to and carry out existing work practices, procedures and policies
• Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate
• Understand and comply with safety and environmental policies
• Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE:

• Fork lift experience preferred
• Experience cleaning industrial/commercial buildings required

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

CERTIFICATIONS:

• Ability to become forklift certified
• Valid driver’s license
