Job summary

Columbia Bank seeks a Community Development Officer for the NY Market to build relationships with housing agencies, nonprofits, and local governments to advance CRA lending and affordable housing initiatives in the New York metro area.

You will identify programs, coordinate with CRA executives and lenders, and represent the bank at community events, delivering financial education and promoting development projects in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of affordable housing, small business development and community development experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to affordable housing and economic development under the CRA.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel to and participate in civic and community functions and events within the metropolitan area.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Self-starter and able to work independently.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Foster and maintain relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other partners to advance Columbia Bank’s involvement in affordable housing and economic development within the NY market CRA area.
• Develop trusting rapport with housing agencies and small business owners; conduct check-in calls.
• Meet with councils of governments, counties, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations to learn about housing development projects and needs.
• Refer partners to Columbia’s CRA Account Executive, Commercial Lenders, Branch Managers, Nonprofit Officers to increase lending and investments.
• Research and recommend programs for housing, construction, purchase, rehabilitation, and small business initiatives in low- and moderate-income areas.
• Represent the bank at civic/community functions; present financial education seminars.
• Maintain understanding of CRA laws and relevant programs; attend training and conferences.
