Job summary

University of Texas at Austin through Applied Research Laboratories seeks a Communications Systems Technical Project Manager at the Pickle Research Campus to oversee Naval acoustic and RF projects. You will coordinate with ATSD engineering, develop detailed execution plans, and manage schedules and test events.

This role requires five years of PM experience, strong communication, and the ability to document and present technical information to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, engineering management, or similar technical field.
  • Experience with RF communications systems, communications networks.
  • Five years of project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and leading technical projects.
  • Three years of demonstrated experience in managing engineering teams.
  • Experience planning, developing and executing technical project plans across a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to document, maintain and present technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized, capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks, be willing to accept and incorporate feedback, and managing their time.
  • This position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients.
  • Applicant must be able to work under pressure and accept supervision with regular and punctual attendance.

Purpose

This position will be responsible for the technical project management of multiple Naval acoustic and radio frequency (RF) efforts in the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Seven years of related experience.
  • At least five years of demonstrated experience in technical project management.
  • Prior military or defense system development experience.
  • Experience with Department of Defense acquisition processes.
  • Experience working with classified information systems.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
General Notes

An agency designated by the federal government handles the investigation as to the requirement for eligibility for access to classified information. Factors considered during this investigation include but are not limited to allegiance to the United States, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations, drug involvement, the likelihood of continuation of such conduct, etc.

Salary Range

$100,000-$140,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.

Employment Eligibility

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Staff who are promotion/transfer eligible may apply for positions without supervisor approval.

Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
