Job summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a part-time Communications Student Assistant for the State Botanic Garden of Georgia in Athens. You will help promote the garden using print media, social media and the garden’s website.

Responsibilities include taking photos, creating social media posts and promotional materials, and assisting with a garden magazine. Weekend and some night hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • A strong background in social media and graphic design; writing experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Communications Manager at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at UGA, this part‑time student position in communications will be responsible for promoting the garden utilizing print media, social media and the garden’s website.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

A qualified candidate for this position should have a strong background in social media and graphic design. Writing experience is a plus. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are expected. Flexibility to work some weekends and nights is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Applicants who would be mutually beneficial for the position include journalism or public relations majors with an interest in or experience with horticulture or ecology; horticulture majors with media experience; and marketing majors with an interest in horticulture or nonprofit organizations.
