Job summary

International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking Communications & Partnerships Interns & Fellows to help tell IJM’s field stories and engage partners. The program is a 12-month fellowship spanning multiple offices worldwide, with stipends to support living expenses.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree, internship or leadership experience, and fluency in Spanish for some offices, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office. Travel opportunities may be available.

The Need For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence.

9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty.

As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking Communications & Partnerships Interns & Fellows.

Depending on your level of experience, your role may involve some of the following responsibilities as well as other relevant duties assigned by the Field Office Director or Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop stories and news items on IJM programs for HQ materials such as: News from the Field, IJM Justice Briefings, Quarterly Reports, web updates, fundraising pieces, PowerPoint presentations and IJM speeches;
• Check facts and use research skills to help put IJM work into regional and global context;
• Maintain a file containing articles in newspapers and internet of interest;
• Conduct field research and write issue-focused stories to highlight IJM's work;
• Research, compile and analyze information of use for the office in the area of communications;
• Arrange interviews and establish contacts with entities, civil servants and social/media operators, etc.;
• Develop documents based on studies, surveys and interviews of information subjects;
• Serve as an internal, entrepreneurial reporter to capture the stories and news items that describe the work of IJM;
• Draft press releases after significant events for local media;
• Create and maintain press release list with local and national newspapers and magazines;
• Secure opportunities for IJM to conduct training for churches, community leaders and the general population;
• Maintain promotional materials, inventory and ledger;
• Support the execution and promotional materials for key events;
• Other departmental support as needed.

Program duration is 12 months, from June 2027 – May 2028.

General Qualifications and Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree;
• At least one prior professional internship experience or significant leadership experience in extracurricular, campus, volunteer, or community-based organizations. Organizational and administrative skills; Knowledge of Microsoft software and Windows strongly preferred; and Fluency in Spanish required for Latin America offices.

Fellowship General Qualifications and Required Skills

• Three or more years of relevant professional experience and/or a graduate degree;
• Prior work experience in Communications, Media, Public Relations, and/or Event Management;
• Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Windows XP;
• Experience networking with International and National NGO's, CBO's, faith-based communities, and local government;
• Fluency in Spanish required for Latin America offices.

As volunteers, interns and fellows receive a monthly stipend to help defray their expenses related to participating in the internship program. This volunteer stipend is not an hourly wage, nor wages paid for services provided by the intern or fellow.

*What is a statement of faith? A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM. The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document and should include, at a minimum, a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.
