Job description

Organizational context: The United Nations Youth Office, established by General Assembly resolution 76/306, is a dedicated entity within the UN Secretariat focused on youth affairs. It leads system-wide youth coordination, advocacy, and policy coherence, promoting meaningful youth engagement in UN processes. The Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications Section spearheads initiatives to strengthen youth participation and foster collaboration.

Job purpose: This internship within the UN Youth Office's Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications Section offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to key initiatives like the UN Youth Compass and the UN the Townhall event. The role is designed to support the office's mandate of leading youth coordination, advocacy, and policy coherence across the UN system. The intern will gain practical experience in communication strategies, social media management, and event support, directly contributing to the UN's efforts to promote youth engagement in multilateral processes and decision-making. This position provides a platform for learning and applying communication skills in a dynamic international environment.

Responsibilities: The intern will support the Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications Section by assisting in the development of visual communication products, including PowerPoint presentations and infographics. Responsibilities include aiding in the design and execution of social media campaigns, creating weekly and monthly editorial calendars, and tracking social media engagement to identify successful strategies. The intern will also be involved in producing videos and photos of UN Youth Office events, participating in and documenting office meetings, and performing other related duties as required to support the section's communication and engagement objectives.

Education: Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a university degree program (Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. or equivalent). A field of study related to the internship is required. Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Work experience: Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, experience in youth engagement or related processes is considered an asset. Experience in communication or related fields is desirable.

Skills: Proficiency in social media tools, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint. Experience with youth engagement and communication processes is advantageous. Fluency in English is required.
