Job summary

Collier County Sheriff's Office is seeking energetic individuals for the Communications Equipment Specialist Apprentice role. Starting salary is $29.40 per hour.

Candidates should have at least two years of experience in supporting communications systems in public safety or emergency services, with an associate's degree preferred. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining landline phones and critical communication systems, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring accurate inventories

Qualifications

• Knowledge of public safety communications theory, radio and telecommunications principles, and applicable regulations.
• Ability to maintain inventory accounting records and other administrative records.
• Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours including after-hours emergencies.
• Experience coordinating with vendors, manufacturers, carriers, and service providers for public safety comms.
• Experience administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting mission-critical communications systems (VoIP, PBX, Radio, Dispatch-related).

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, update, and troubleshoot landline phones and related equipment.
• Provide technical support for radio systems, dispatch equipment, telephony systems, and infrastructure.
• Diagnose outages, identify root cause, and restore service promptly.
• Maintain inventories, databases, and records for radios and equipment configurations.
• Review and process vendor invoices.
• Serve as liaison with vendors, carriers, manufacturers, and stakeholders for reliable comms operations.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office is looking for positive, proactive, energetic, enthusiastic individuals that support our core principles of community, safety, service to fill the position ofCommunications Equipment Specialist Apprentice.Starting salary at $29.40 per hour.

• Minimum of two years' experience in supporting communications systems in public safety or emergency services environment.
• Minimum OPAC score of 80% and Wonderlic score of 20.
• Ability to type 30 correct wpm.
• Associate's degree or a comprehensive representation of equivalent work-related experience in Electronics, Telecommunications, or Information Technology preferred.

Position Requirements:

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
