Why does the job exist?

The Communications Coordinator position works directly with CYFD¿s Public Affairs and Communications/Marketing team to produce and disseminate assets and communications through various media types and platforms. This position is responsible for graphics and marketing materials aligned with CYFD¿s goals and branding strategies. This position includes several multi‑media functions:
Web Design and Development: This position regularly updates CYFD¿s external and internal website built on Wordpress content management systems. This may include but is not limited to updating and revising content, adding and creating new content, building and developing new pages to improve user experience, and Search Engine Optimization.
Writing: This position includes some writing which may include social media captions, email content, drafting interdepartmental messages, speaking notes, and event briefs.
Public Relations: This position may require some media relations which include media tracking, editing, and coordinating interviews.
All of these functions work towards the goals of promoting informative/positive narratives, amplifying voice, and promoting evidence‑based strategies for supporting children and families across New Mexico. These tools are used to represent CYFD¿s brand identity, values and experiences.
The person in the position will be responsible for keeping assets up to date and accurate, using best practices and digital optimization.
This position reports to the Deputy Director of Communications.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has professional experience and must present a portfolio of their work to be considered.
Skills required: graphic design, type layout, web development (Wordpress), and video production.
Software knowledge must include Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, and optionally Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolve, or similar video creation and editing software
Additionally, clear and efficient writing skills, email management systems, Microsoft programs, and general computer literacy. Marketing, SEO, and analytics experience are a plus.

Associates Degree in Publications, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing, and/or related field and one (1) year of experience in public relations, mass communications, television, radio, print media, emergency communications, and/or emergency management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Pre‑employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed primarily in an office setting, but on occasion will be performed in the outdoors during all types of weather conditions and in close proximity to fish and wildlife. Weekend and varied hours occasionally will be required for this position. Must be able to lift 60 pounds and operate computers and photography equipment.
