Job summary

MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger seeks a Communications Associate to support a multi-faceted communications program promoting advocacy priorities, fundraising, and brand visibility. The role is based in Washington, DC, in a remote/in-office hybrid setup and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

The position collaborates with the Director and Senior Manager to execute strategy, manage online content, monitor media, and produce newsletters and materials while upholding MAZON's mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years experience in nonprofit/public affairs communications.
  • Experience with WordPress, Canva, Google Analytics, and social media management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day department projects, events, meetings, and general operations.
  • Work with Senior Communications Manager to implement cross-channel communications strategy and PR tactics.
  • Maintain MAZON's online presence, including website and social media; compile data on digital footprint.
  • Monitor MAZON in the news and anti-hunger issues; identify opportunities to engage and raise visibility.
  • Curate MAZON's story bank, media library, press lists, and editorial calendars.
  • Draft newsletter articles, talking points, speeches, op-eds, infographics, blogs.
  • Other duties as assigned; some nights and weekends may be required.

MAZON is a leading national voice on anti-hunger issues. We educate communities across the country about the reality of hunger and how they can join us to help end it. We also provide funding to expand advocacy, training, and resources to nonprofit organizations across the United States and Israel, which includes a range of partnerships with local advocacy groups, food banks, legal-service organizations, and statewide coalitions.

Position Overview:

The Communications Associate helps implement a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to promote MAZON's advocacy priorities, raise funds, and grow brand visibility. The position is based in the organization's Washington, DC office in a remote/in-office hybrid environment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of the Director of Communications, assists with day-to-day department projects, events, meetings, and general operations.
  • Works closely with the Senior Communications Manager to implement cross-channel communications strategy and various public relations tactics to advance MAZON's advocacy, development, and programmatic goals.
  • Executes systems to maintain and improve MAZON's online presence, including website and social media platforms. Compiles regular data and statistics about MAZON's digital footprint.
  • Monitors MAZON in the news and anti-hunger issues in mainstream and niche media outlets, identifying opportunities for MAZON to engage, advance policy priorities, and raise visibility.
  • Curates MAZON's story bank, media library (photos, videos, audio files, etc.), press lists, editorial calendars, and tracking documents.
  • Helps draft newsletter articles, talking points, speeches, opinion pieces, infographics, blog posts, and other materials as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Some nights and weekends required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in a nonprofit and/or public affairs organization, preferably in a communications role. Social justice, anti-hunger, public policy, or Jewish community experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with WordPress, Canva, Google Analytics, and social media management. Experience with Salesforce, Quorum, Tableau, Feathr, or similar systems is a plus.
  • Excellent judgment, critical thinking, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Keen eye for design and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to take direction well, manage deadlines efficiently, work independently, and collaborate effectively with various teams and partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Deep commitment to MAZON's mission to end hunger.
Compensation and Benefits:

MAZON offers a compensation package with a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $64,000 annually.Employer-paid benefits include comprehensive medical insurance and Life/Disability/AD&D insurance.Other benefits include a401K plan with an employer match, FSA participation, dental, vision, and AFLAC insurance at a discounted group rate.MAZON offers a very generous vacation, sick time plan, and holiday schedule,including all major Jewish holidays.We close early on Fridaysin observance of Shabbat.We have a fun office environment (even virtually!) and a fantastic team who are dedicated to the meaningful work we do.
