Job Title: Communications Associate
Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt; up to 20 hours per week; not eligible for parish employee benefits
Location: St. David- Willow Grove
Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Parochial Administrator, with direction and coordination from the Pastoral Associate as appropriate.
Position Summary: The Communications Associate supports the Parish's day-to-day communications and marketing efforts, promoting Parish events, ministries, programs, and activities. The position requires strong writing, editing, organizational, marketing, and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; creativity; and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a consistent Parish voice and presentation.
Normal Work Days/Hours: Hours are flexible, up to 20 hours per week, and will be scheduled in consultation with the Parochial Administrator. Work may be performed in the Parish Office or remotely, as approved by the Parochial Administrator. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for major Parish events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, prepare, edit, and distribute communications promoting Parish events, programs, ministries, and activities.
- Collect, edit, format, proofread, and coordinate the weekly Parish Sunday Bulletin, including submission to the publisher by established deadlines.
- Maintain and update the Parish website and other digital communication platforms.
- Create and schedule content for Parish social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms utilized by the Parish.
- Prepare and distribute Flocknote emails, text messages, and other electronic communications.
- Provide communications support for pastoral, liturgical, PREP, youth ministry, administrative, and development initiatives.
- Coordinate with Parish staff and ministry leaders to ensure communications are accurate, timely, and consistent.
- Assist with graphic design, photography, video, and other communications projects as needed.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by the Parochial Administrator or Business Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent written, oral, proofreading, and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with graphic design, website management, social media, Flocknote, or similar platforms preferred.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with clergy, Parish staff, ministry leaders, parishioners, and visitors while maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
- Familiarity with and respect for the teachings, mission, and practices of the Catholic Church; practicing Roman Catholic preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all clearances and training required by Pennsylvania and the Archdiocese, including mandated reporter, criminal background, and safe environment requirements.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- College degree preferred in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or a related field.
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Previous experience in communications, marketing, social media, graphic design, or a related field preferred.
- Practicing Roman Catholic preferred; demonstrated familiarity with and respect for the teachings, mission, and practices of the Catholic Church required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to move throughout Parish facilities, including ascending and descending stairs.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
