Job summary

The Crete Public Library District is seeking a Communications and Marketing Coordinator to lead visually engaging newsletters, flyers, digital content, and in-library displays promoting programs and services.

As a member of the Leadership Team, you will attend community events, drive outreach, and collaborate with staff to deliver creative design solutions across print and digital channels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, graphic design, or a closely related field, or an exceptional portfolio.
• Three years of experience in marketing or communications, preferably in a library, public sector, or nonprofit environment.

Responsibilities

• Designing the quarterly print newsletter to highlight Library programs, resources, and services.
• Posting on the Library’s social media accounts.
• Updating the Library’s website.
• Creating posters, brochures, flyers, bookmarks, and digital graphics.
• Meeting with staff to discuss upcoming marketing needs.
• Attending community events such as Farmer’s Market or Acorn Fest.
• Setting up a display for National Library Week.
• Meeting with the Management Team to debrief and problem-solve.
• Contributing to a positive, team-oriented environment that supports and promotes the library’s offerings.

Job description

The Crete Public Library District isseeking a creative, experienced, and reliable professional to serve as the Library’s Communications and Marketing Coordinator. With a staff of 24 employees, the Library District strives to offer a wide variety of services and materials for a population of 17,300+ within both the Village of Crete and Crete Township in the far southern suburbs. This position offers a salary range of $48,000-$54,000 and generous benefit package detailed below.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

A member of the Library’s Leadership Team, this position is responsible for creating visually engaging newsletters, flyers, digital content, and in-library displays that promote the library’s programs, events, services, and spaces. The ideal candidate will be a creative and strategic visual communicator who brings fresh, energetic design ideas to everything from digital graphics to in-library decorations. This position will also be a key component of the Library’s outreach program and will attend various community events throughout the year as a representative of the Library.

A TYPICAL WEEK MIGHT INCLUDE:

• Designing the quarterly print newsletter to highlight Library programs, resources, and services
• Posting on the Library’s social media accounts
• Updating the Library’s website

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILTIES:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
• Strong graphic design skills, including proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Canva, Microsoft Office, and the Google Workspace
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong command of grammar and writing mechanics
• Creative problem-solving abilities with an eye for both big-picture design and detail
• Ability to manage data for effective reporting and decision-making in collaboration with Library Director.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, trustees, vendors, and the public.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in difficult situations.
• Ability to adapt to and effectively manage change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a public relations, marketing, communications, graphic design, or closely related field OR combination of coursework, experience, and an exceptional portfolio of proficiency
• Three years of experience in marketing or communications, preferably in a library, public sector, or nonprofit environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: A comprehensive benefit package includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), and health insurance and life insurance. The position is also offered three weeks (15 days total) of annual vacation time, plus paid holidays.
