Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a Communications and Assistance Specialist for VALRC within the School of Education. You will provide frontline customer service to adult education instructors and programs, manage registrations, and support online courses and trainings.

The role is hybrid and up to 29 hours per week, with a pay range of $25.00–$27.00 per hour. Occasional in-person meetings and events are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service through phone and email.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the VALRC main phone line, GED test help line, and the VALRC general email account.
  • Organize informal weekly phone and email communications reports for the VALRC team.
  • Maintain and update the Provider Directories of adult education programs on valrc.org and gedva.com.
  • Support VALRC’s registration and evaluation processes by collecting and organizing participant information.
  • Provide technical assistance for online training offerings, including monitoring registrations and assisting trainers during online meetings and webinars.
  • Assist in planning and organizing in-person events, including registration information and logistics.
  • Maintain open communication with the VALRC team and attend regular check-ins.

The Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center (VALRC) at VCU’s Schoolof Education (SOE) seeks a Communications and Assistance Specialistwho will contribute to a climate that supports all students,faculty, and staff. The Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center(VALRC) at VCU is a grant-funded center in the School of Educationthat provides adult education and literacy resources, publications,and training for adult education instructors and program managersthroughout the state of Virginia. The VALRC’s mission is to equipthe field of adult education and literacy with essential skills andresources through effective training, publications, curriculumdesign, and program development. We do this by ensuring that thefield of adult education and literacy has the best available toolsand training to help adult learners build a better future. TheCommunications and Assistance role is foundational to thatmission.

The selected candidate will serve as the first line ofcommunication and support for the state’s field of adult educationby providing high-quality customer service through email, phone,and social media. This role also supports the VALRC by assistingwith event planning and providing technical support for the onlinecourses and training events that we deliver. This is a virtualposition that will require occasional participation in in-personmeetings and events.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality customer service through phone and emailcommunications.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the VALRC main phone line, theGED test help line, and the VALRC general email account.

  • Maintain and update the Provider Directories of adult educationprograms on the valrc.org and gedva.com sites.
  • Support VALRC’s registration and evaluation processes bycollecting and organizing participant information.
  • Provide technical assistance for our online training offerings,including monitoring registrations for courses, assisting trainersduring synchronous online meetings and webinars, and supportingonline facilitated courses by monitoring attendance andparticipation, in collaboration with the VALRC specialists.
  • Assist in planning and organizing in-person events, includingmonitoring registration information and assisting with eventlogistics, such as procurement of space, equipment, andcatering.
  • Maintain open communication with the VALRC team and attendregular check-ins or meetings as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Superior customer support skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to functionindependently.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn how to utilize technologies thatare necessary for the Center’s work, including navigating emailsystems, learning management systems, Wordpress, and collaborativeworking documents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with adult education and literacy programs
  • Experience working in an academic setting
  • Postsecondary degree
  • Proficiency in spoken Spanish
Salary Range:

$25.00- $27.00
